Holidays to Australia

Known for its natural wonders, wide open spaces, wonderful beaches and sporting prowess, the Commonwealth of Australia is an island of continental proportions (it is two thirds the size of Europe). Its major cities are all situated along the coast, whilst its vast and arid interior (the ‘Outback’) is most unpopulated. Australia is also home to much unique wildlife, including the kangaroo, koala, dingo, wallaby, platypus, wombat and flightless emu.

Beautiful Sydney is best known for its Opera House, with its distinctive sail-like design, Harbour Bridge and Bondi Beach, whilst Blue Mountains National Park is a popular day trip from the city. The second largest city of Melbourne has a distinctly European feel and is a haven for culture vultures, with many galleries and theatres. The ‘Great Ocean Road’ is a spectacular self-drive route along this southeast coast. Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, with endless surfing beaches and sandy Fraser Island within easy reach. Further north, the Great Barrier Reef is one of the largest living structures on the planet, offering outstanding snorkelling and diving. The 74 Whitsunday Islands and the gigantic trees of Daintree National Park are also astonishing. Perth is the vibrant capital of Western Australia, whilst Broome (once the pearl capital of the world) is now a booming tourist town and the gateway to the magnificent Kimberley region. Heading inland, the isolated town of Alice Springs is the gateway to the iconic red-rock monolith of Uluru (formerly Ayers Rock), whilst stunning Kakadu in the far north is the largest national park in Australia. In the south, the lush island of Tasmania is known for its mountains, waterfalls, small ‘Tasmanian devil’ marsupial and the annual Sydney to Hobart yacht race.

Many people fly-drive around Australia, as it’s so easy to get around (they also drive on the left) but you can join a small group escorted tour, or journey on the ‘Old Ghan’ heritage train, travelling from Adelaide all the way through the Northern Territory to Darwin. All our holidays to Australia can be tailor-made to your exact requirements, whether fly-drive, self-drive road trips or a luxury train. So if you have any special requirements, or need wheelchair accessible accommodation due to limited mobility, just let us know.
