SAMPLE ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Iceland

Fly to Keflavik airport and collect your hire car. Drive 2 hours through the lava landscapes of the Reykjanes peninsula and on to Road 1 to Hotel Ranga in the heart of the Icelandic countryside.

This is your home for the next 3 nights, in a spectacular location under big skies ideal for aurora sightings. Ranga is the perfect place to bring the night sky to life with its roll-off roof observatory, which houses two high quality telescopes, with special camera attachments to take photographs of the sky.

Day 2: Explore the South Coast

Explore the beautiful south coast today. Visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk behind the falls, and the more hidden yet stunning Gljufrafoss waterfall.

Continue to 60m high Skogafoss waterfall, where you can hike to the top for amazing views of the south coast and the sea.

Also visit the little town of Vik with its hilltop church, walk along its dramatic black sand beaches. Dyrholaey has a spectacular rock arch and cliffs teaming with seabirds. Until mid-August, you normally find a colony of puffins here.

Day 3: Drive the Golden Circle Route

Comprising a trio of natural wonders, this is Iceland's most iconic road route.

Explore the Geysir geothermal area with its famous ‘Strokkur’ geyser that spouts fountains of hot water every few minutes, visit the beautiful 2-tiered Gullfoss waterfall and walk in Thingvellir National Park, an ancient parliamentary assembly site in a rift valley caused by the separation of two tectonic plates above the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. If time permits, also visit historic Skalholt church.

Day 4: Drive back to Keflavik Airport

Head back to Keflavik airport today, perhaps taking a dip in the hot milky blue waters of the famous Blue Lagoon en route (pre-booking required). Return your rental car and check in for your flight home.
